This Long Beach neighborhood is one of many areas developed by Cliff May, a home builder of many architectural designs in Southern California. These homes were typically one story, 3 bedrooms with an open flow from the living area directly into the kitchen, typically separated by an open air divider wall, often an attached garage. With time, many homes have been expanded to add family rooms, reinventing the front yards as enclosed gated courtyards, and second floor additions in some cases. Now popular as "retro" architecture, the area contains many homes upgraded to contemporary standards in the mid-century style
The Ranchos houses have a loyal following who enjoy being part of a mid-20th century era.
