Los Altos Homes in East Long Beach
Long Beach Homes in the Los Altos Area
Los Altos homes (zip code 90815) are located in the east side of Long Beach, a popular area built up in the early 1950's. Los Altos provides what many homeowners are looking for: a sense of place. It is part of the east Long Beach area transformed from agricultural farming and open fields to a residential suburb. This area has long attracted families with children because many parks, elementary schools and middle schools are within walking distance and have excellent recreational opportunities and educational reputations. The original homes are two and three bedrooms with one or two baths, but many have been modified, expanded or remodeled into much larger homes over time. Because of its ideal location, many owners have stayed put and "built up" into much larger homes. Many businesses have been around since the 1950s. This area grew up alongside the university campus which held its first classes in apartment buildings on Anaheim St, and is bordered by the Los Altos Shopping Center and California State University (CSU) at Long Beach. It’s an ideal location for commuters because of close 405 Freeway access.
Post-World War II transformation from open agricultural groves and fields into new homes and neighborhoods brought attractive parks such as Whaley Park, bordered by single family homes and treelined streets. The area developers, Lloyd Whaley and Ben Weingart, donated the land which became the parks, libraries and churches. The first church was Los Altos United Methodist Church which was used by many denominations in the beginning; the first shopping mall was the Los Altos Shopping Center which is still a commercial center.
Currently, there are many single family homes listed in Los Altos, Stratford Square, the Plaza, and Artcraft Manor and College Park/University Park Estates, La Marina, and much more in the broader area of east Long Beach.
