Park Estates is home to ranch style and mid-century houses developed and built largely by Lloyd Whaley who was supposedly inspired by architect Paul R. Williams original design for his own home. It is marked by quiet residential streets with spacious homes on wide lots. Over time some different Norman or Tudor architectural styles have been added as new residents have taken advantage of rebuilding on the area's large lots.
This area is near the Rancho Los Alamitos site which dates back to about 1806, the 405 Freeway and is adjacent to the California State University Long Beach campus. Anaheim Road is lined with pepper trees, the same road once being part of the Bixby family's private ranch holdings prior to othe early 1950's.
